About Crete

Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, being the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.

It's well known for its seas and beaches but has a very contrasting landscape, from fertile coastal plains to rugged mountains and a number of famous gorges. There are busy metropolitan cities and also very peaceful hillside homes.

Crete is famous for its tasty and healthy cuisine and this was the subject of study that revealed its great health benefits and nutritional value. There are many places to eat, traditional tavernas being very popular.

For accommodation there are many package holidays available but this is also a good place to do your own thing as the beauty of Crete is located in small hidden villages. There are two airports to choose from, Chania or Heraklion.

Winter is fairly mild here, although snowfall is common on the mountains between November and May. During the Cretan summer, average temperatures are around 30Celsius but can go up to the mid 40s.
